What are the contact lens professional fees and why do I have to pay for them?
Finding the right pair of contact lenses for the best possible vision and comfort may require trying several designs as well as multiple visits to the doctor. Professional fees - also referred to as fitting fees - keep the costs low, because a one-time fee is charged for all professional time, lens design and changes, and laboratory fees for up to one year. By paying a one-time fee, a patient is guaranteed to be fitted with superior vision and comfort without any added out-of-pocket expense.
May I have a copy of my prescription?
Prescriptions are kept on file and may be obtained within 2 years of the last exam for glasses. Contact lens prescriptions may be obtained within 1 year of the last exam after the fitting process has been completed and all balances have been paid in full.
How much do glasses cost?
Glasses vary in cost based upon the individual prescription, type of insurance coverage, frame style and lenses selected as well as additional features such as tinting, scratch-resistant and antireflective coatings. Professional fees are generally not covered by insurance.
The second cost is for your contact lens materials. These costs will vary depending upon materials and wearing schedule. Our contact lens materials are competitively priced as compared to other independent optometrists.

Why do I have to pay a fitting fee if my prescription has not changed since my last visit?
Even though your prescription has not changed, the shape of your eye or your general eye health may have changed. The doctor will need to examine your eyes and reevaluate your prescription and contact lens materials to determine if they are still providing optimum vision and comfort. this yearly fee will cover and follow-up visits as well as any contact-related problems that may occur within the year.
Can you match a competitor’s price on contacts?
If you bring in a written quote, the doctor can determine if we can match the competitor’s price. However, Ossip often carries different products and uses better materials than those offered by our competitors.
Why does my prescription expire in one year?
It is important to have your eyes examined once a year, not only for prescription changes, but also to check the overall health of your eyes. By law, doctors cannot dispense contacts with an expired prescription after one year.
What does my insurance cover? Why didn’t my insurance pay for this?
Insurance coverage is determined by the type of plan an individual carries. In most cases, this plan is determined by your employer. The benefits coordinator or human resource representative at your place of employment can explain how your benefits work. Most insurance companies provide a toll-free number at which an agent can look specifically at your insurance plan and explain your coverage amounts. Ossip works with the insurance companies to determine your benefit amounts and file the necessary paperwork to process your claims.©
